Erik Knutila Bio

Erik Knutila  Director, IT Practice

Erik is a leader with 23 years of experience in a wide array of IT management disciplines. He has held key positions in IT and, as a Military Officer, a Defense Contractor, a Commercial IT Manager.

A 1988 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Erik joined the United States Marine Corps as a Communications Officer. During his service, Erik commanded several platoons of Marines, served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was the first project manager for the Global Command and Control System (GCCS). He was awarded two Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals.

Erik left as a Major in the Marine Corps Reserves subsequently holding several positions as a Defense Contractor, to include working on the Defense Information Infrastructure (DII) as the Integration Task lead at the Defense Information Systems agency and Program Manager for C4I contracts at Ocean Systems Engineering Corporation (OSEC -now QineticNorth America) providing support for Marine Corps Systems Command. Erik went to the Banking Industry for SWIFT - the international financial telecommunications cooperative, responsible for the development and management of the Development and Testing systems budgets. Erik consulted to key clients including the US Department of Veterans Affairs, US Department of Agriculture, JetBlue Airways and Nexus Systems. Erik was tasked with incorporating best practices for security controls, contracting, managing requests for proposals, risk management, IT outsourcing, configuration and systems management and Corporate and IT Governance, using frameworks and controls sets to include the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), COBIT, and NIST standards.

Erik holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy. He is certified in ITILv3 Foundation.
